With inflation and constant changes in the world, a lot of people live paycheck by paycheck. It seems quite impossible to even think about budgeting when you need to rely on one paycheck per month and prices going up. However, there are some things you can do today to help you get better at managing your money.
1. Know Your Income
You would be surprised by how many people don’t know how much they earn in a month. Figuring out what amount of money you are working with each month will make the budgeting process much easier. When you don't know how much you earn it is much easier to overspend. Being aware of the money you are working with will help you know what is the best way for your to budget.
2. Write Down Fixed Expenses
Having all of your fixed expenses and their due dates written down can help you allocate enough money to what is most important. When you live paycheck by paycheck it is crucial to pay your rent, mortgage payments, utilities, etc. You should never allow yourself to not have enough money to pay fixed expenses as it can quickly lead to debt. Have clear priorities and as soon as you are due pay everything that is part of the fixed expenses.
3. Budget Variable Expenses
While fixed expenses are very important to pay on time, variable expenses can make a dent in your wallet if you don't pay attention. Variable expenses are groceries, transportation, entertainment, etc. Those are the things that change month by month and knowing exactly how much money you want to spend on these things can help you build a trust fund. Before you head over to the grocery store make sure that you have a grocery list. But for it to be beneficial it is best to plan meals you want to prepare and then buy groceries accordingly.
Living paycheck by paycheck isn’t easy but if you start budgeting right now you can slowly start saving money and feel less burdened.
