Join me as I take you on an unforgettable journey through Croatia and Slovenia, with the ultimate destination being the stunning Laghi di Fusine and the captivating natural wonders of the Julian Alps.
The journey was filled with pleasant drives, punctuated by brief stops for rest. Our first stop in Italy led us to Laghi di Fusine, nestled on the border between the Dolomites and the Julian Alps. Comprising the Upper and Lower lakes, Lago Superiore and Lago Inferiore respectively, these lakes rest at the foot of Mangart, Slovenia's fourth-highest peak. Our adventure continued with visits to Zelenci, a pristine natural reserve located at the border of Slovenia, Italy, and Austria, and Lake Jasna, an enchanting artificial lake formed by the merging of two smaller lakes. Let me recount the personal experiences and breathtaking beauty I encountered along the way.
Exploring Laghi di Fusine
As we stepped off the bus at the Lower Lake (Lago Inferiore) of Laghi di Fusine, a sense of tranquility enveloped me. Surrounded by dense forests, the lake's crystal-clear waters reflected the majestic peaks in a truly mesmerizing display. I couldn't resist capturing the beauty with my camera and pausing for a coffee break amidst nature's splendor. The gentle breeze and peaceful ambiance were a welcome respite, inviting me to embrace the serenity of this natural paradise. After immersing myself in the peaceful atmosphere, we set off on foot towards the Upper Lake (Lago Superiore), eagerly anticipating the breathtaking views that awaited us.
The Magnificence of the Upper Lake
Arriving at the Upper Lake, standing at an elevation of 929 meters above sea level, I found myself in awe of the awe-inspiring panorama before me. Time seemed to stand still as I gazed upon the emerald waters shimmering beneath the radiant sun. I couldn't help but take a moment to capture the picturesque scenery, etching the memories into my heart and camera. Reluctantly tearing myself away, I embarked on a picturesque hiking trail that led us to the Rifugio Luigi Zacchi, a mountain hut nestled at an elevation of 1380 meters.
The invigorating hike provided an opportunity to connect with nature, as the crisp mountain air filled my lungs and the magnificent landscapes unfolded around me. Although the hike is relatively medium demanding, I wouldn't say that it is suitable for people who are less able to walk, or who do not have a high level of fitness, as some parts of the trail are steep.
Zelenci: A Natural Gem
Reuniting with our group, we bid farewell to the enchanting Laghi di Fusine and journeyed towards Zelenci, a natural reserve located on the tripoint of Slovenia, Italy, and Austria. The sight of the mesmerizing emerald-green waters instantly mesmerized me, lending an ethereal beauty to the surroundings. Zelenci derives its name from the lush greenery that surrounds the lake, creating a serene and captivating atmosphere. A fascinating fact about this wonder is that it remains unfrozen even during the winter, maintaining a constant temperature of 6 degrees Celsius. I savored the tranquil ambiance as I embarked on a stroll, taking time to capture the stunning landscapes through my lens.
Lake Jasna
A Picturesque Oasis: Our final stop brought us to the enchanting Lake Jasna, an artificial lake formed by the convergence of the Velika and Mala Pišnica streams. The idyllic setting, with its pristine turquoise waters and majestic backdrop, left me awe-struck. As I wandered along the shores, I couldn't resist capturing the bronze statue of the chamois, a symbol of the region's rich wildlife. The peacefulness of Lake Jasna offered a perfect opportunity for reflection, surrounded by nature's grandeur.
Tips
For this type of day trip, you need comfortable and high-quality sports shoes in which you will be able to walk the section. You also need a sufficient amount of water + a meal (sandwich, energy bars,...). Since I went on this trip on June 17th, due to the warm weather, I also needed a spare wardrobe (shirt, socks, towel...). Definitely bring sunscreen with you. Tocobo Cotton Soft Sun Stick was a skin savior as it was mostly sunny and hot. You can get it on Stylevana with my discount code INF10SWEET. I also recommend trying BEAUTY OF JOSEON - Relief Sun : Rice + Probiotic SPF50+ PA++++.
My journey through Laghi di Fusine, Zelenci, and Lake Jasna was a testament to the incredible beauty that awaits us in the heart of the Julian Alps. From the serenity of Laghi di Fusine's lakes to the pristine allure of Zelenci and the picturesque charm of Lake Jasna, each destination left an indelible mark on my soul. Exploring these natural wonders from my perspective allowed me to connect deeply with the breathtaking landscapes and immerse myself in the tranquility they offered. It's moments like these that remind me of the incredible power of nature and the beauty that surrounds us.
