When we talk about being alone there is a lot of negative connotation around it. Most people connect being alone with being lonely. That couldn't be more from the truth. The fact is that you can be lonely doesn't require alone time, you can be lonely while surrounded by a lot of people as well.
While some dread alone time, they are missing out on some fun things you can do while enjoying your own company. We all need some time to connect with ourselves and charge our batteries. I made a list of 10 ways you can spend your alone time and enjoy it and have fun.
10 FUN ACTIVITIES TO DO ALONE
1. GO TO A BOOKSTORE
The bookstore is a great place to go if you are someone who enjoys reading. They have that calm energy that will make you dive into the world of books. You can never have too many books to read. Maybe you come across a book you have wanted to read for a long time. Going to a bookstore is a great date idea on a rainy day when you don't want to spend the whole day inside your home. Head over to your local bookstore and enjoy all the charms.
2. WATCH AN INSPIRING TED TALK
Ted Talks are a great source of both entertainment and knowledge. We are lucky to have the opportunity to listen to some of the most intellectual people sharing their expertise on different topics. What best thing to do when you are alone than to use that time to hear something new and broaden your perspective. I'm sure there are some topics you feel passionate about and would love to learn more about them.
3. TRY A NEW WORKOUT CLASS
Working out doesn't need to be dreadful if you go about it the right way. There are so many fun ways to move your body and get daily exercise in. Instead of lifting weights and running, why not try some new workout classes. Group training can be so much fun. If you are not a gym kind of person then working at home is not what you prefer. I'm with you on that. YouTube is full of incredible workouts you can do from the comfort of your home, so why not mix it up a little bit.
4. MAKE A VISION BOARD
There are different things you can create. Not all of us are painting, drawing, or DIY projects. Making a vision board is a perfect option for those who want to go back at their creation and feel inspired. You probably have some goals and aspirations in your mind. Putting them on a board and making them physical will have much more impact. Take your alone time to think about what you want to achieve and start creating your vision board. I'm sure it will help you to be one step closer to your dream life.
5. GIVE YOURSELF A SPA DAY
What better time to have a spa day than when you are alone? Those who live with their families or have roommates know how hard it can be to be completely alone at home. After constantly working and taking care of your family, you deserve to pamper yourself. Me-time is what we all need once in a while but tend to push back. This right now is your sign to book a massage, go to pedicure and manicure, or simply make yourself a relaxing bath. Spa days look different for everyone. As long as you feel refreshed after it you did a great job.
6. READ BLOGS
I may be a little bit biased here, but the blogging community is incredible. If you don't already have your favorite blogs to read, it is time that you find some. I recommend checking out Jenny In Neverland and Kayleigh Zara. You can be sure that you will learn so much from these two and other bloggers. Supporting your favorite bloggers is a great thing to do. You are not even aware of how much that means to us. So when you have some alone time be sure to check out blogs and let them know your thoughts.
7. TAKE PERSONALITY TESTS
I'm sure you heard about all the personality tests out there. MBTI test might be the most popular one. I'm sure that most of you already know your type. Did you know that as time passes your personality type might change? In case you took the test when you were younger, try to take it again and see if anything changed. Another popular test is the Enneagram test that shows which one of 9 personality types suits you the best. Personality tests are great for learning more about yourself and others. Which MBTI and enneagram type are you? (I am INFJ and Type 5.)
8. REWATCH 90'S CLASSICS
I don't know about you, but I am more likely to rewatch 90's classics than modern films. There is something about the way they are shot, the plot, and the characters that make them fun to watch. When was the last time you put on Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You, Forrest Gump, or Pretty Woman? From rom-com to thriller and horror. So many incredible moves were produced in the '90s. It is about time you have a 90's movie night. Get some popcorns, soda and a blanket. Snuggle in and let the move night begin.
9. CREATE A PIECE OF ART
Getting creative is something most of us stopped doing since we finished school. Most of the time to pick up a pencil or a brush doesn't cross our minds. Creating something has so much benefit for our mental health. It is an incredible activity to take your mind of things and relax. You don't need to make a masterpiece. Just grab a pencil and sketch something. Take watercolor or acrylic paint and make an abstract art piece. The possibilities are endless. The point is not to come up with some outstanding pieces of art. The point is to have fun and remember how therapeutic being creative is.
10. TRY A NEW RECIPE
When was the last time you tried a new recipe just for fun? The majority of us cook just because they need to feed themselves and their family. Somewhere on the way, we forget how fun cooking is. Now that you have some alone time, take a recipe book or find the dish you want to make online. There are so many easy yet tasty meals you can make. If baking is your expertise, make some cakes and cookies and bring them to your family and friends. I'm sure they will love it.
