Routine is what makes our life work smoothly. It is our comfort zone not a lot of us like to step out of. Once in a while, there comes a time where we just fall out of our routine and feel a little bit lost. While it may seem like we don't know what we're doing and where we are going, these kinds of times are great for checking in with ourselves and our path in life. Here are 3 reasons why falling out of routine isn't always bad.
#1 PERFECT TIME TO REFLECT
When we feel lost, and all around the place, that is the best time to just stop for a second and do nothing. We are always on the move, and that itself is quite draining. After sticking to the same old routine for a long time, it is easy to get lost in it and habitually follow it every day. That's why checking in with yourself once in a while is what we all need, regardless of how we feel. We are living in a fast pace world with so many things going on around us. Following a routine is energy consuming, especially when it is no longer working for you and you are doing it out of habit. Reflecting is the best way to get back to the root and realize what you really want and what kind of routine will help you achieve it. What we often forget is that not all habits are good for us. Especially if we are following the patterns of somebody else.
#2 LETTING GO OF BAD HABITS
Although you might think that your old routine was efficient, that probably wasn't the truth. If it was, you would still stick to it. What often throw us off are changes in life. Changes that require a different routine from our old one. It is always easier to adopt negative habits than a positive one. It may be that falling out of practice is your unconscious telling you that you are not on the right track anymore or that your current routine isn't working. It is essential to listen to what our body and mind have to tell us. Take this time to revise your old way and see the patterns that are not beneficial for your overall lifestyle. Bad habits can be disguised and hard to notice when you are not paying enough attention, and when you don't do things mindfully. It doesn't mean that you need to completely change your routine. You just need to curate what works and what doesn't.
#3 SETTING NEW GOALS
Falling out of routine is a great time to check in with your goals and set new ones. Goals that you put even a month ago could not be what you want anymore. Sometimes we forget why we are having a routine in the first place. Routine is a way for us to keep track of the actions we take to achieve what we want in life as small or as big as it can be. Now that you are not blindly following a routine is time to see where you stand and where you want to go. This will help you create a new habit that will help you get where you want to be. According to your original goals, it will be much easier to get back into a much healthier routine. Routine that will help you achieve whatever it may be.
